Sermide: Wife's car burns, 36-year-old arrested

The Carabinieri of the Sermide Station (MN), at the end of an intense investigation activity resulting from the fire of a car, they arrested a 36 year old non-EU citizen. The man, already known to the police, he had been reported at liberty only a few days ago by the same Carabinieri of the Sermide Station, for having mistreated his wife who, following the complaint, was then taken into custody by a protected community together with the minor children. The woman then decided to return home, where she resumed living with her husband.

After yet another argument due to the man's alcoholic state, the woman had once again decided to leave home, always taking her children with her, finding shelter with a relative who lived in the area. The husband, still in the throes of alcohol fumes, after having repeatedly tried to contact his wife on the phone without receiving an answer, having understood where she might be, he reached her and, having noticed his wife's car parked along the street, he took it using the spare key, going to a petrol station where he bought a few litres of petrol. He returned the vehicle to the point where he had picked it up and – theatrically – he set the vehicle on fire.

Bad luck (for him) and good luck (for the investigators) wanted it that the subject, while setting the fire, suffered a slight burn to his face, which is why the same Carabinieri who intervened at the scene of the fire accompanied the foreigner to the emergency room of the Civil Hospital of Pieve di Coriano, where he was treated and immediately discharged. The proceedings are in the preliminary investigation phase and the 36enne, whose responsibilities will have to be ascertained during the subsequent trial with the confrontation with the defense, In the early afternoon he was declared under arrest and transferred to prison, at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Mantua.
