Mantua, trafficker of illegal immigrants: Moroccan citizen arrested

The State Police has proceeded with a provisional arrest for extradition purposes of a Moroccan citizen, boss of a criminal organization dedicated to migrant trafficking. The man was traced to a hotel in the city centre.

The Mantua Flying Squad, in night of July 10, 2024, at the end of an info-investigative activity conducted in collaboration with the Service for International Police Cooperation of the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police, arrested a Moroccan citizen for extradition purposesin execution of an international arrest order issued by the King's Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Casablanca, for illegal immigration crimes, committed as part of a criminal organization dedicated to migrant trafficking.

Particularly, in 2023, the Police of the city of Meknes has dismantled a criminal network dedicated to immigration clandestine from Morocco to Europe, through Turkey. Investigations revealed that some Moroccan migrants from from the city of Moulay Driss Zerhoun (Meknes region) crossed the Bulgarian borders clandestinely, passing through Turkey.

The Moroccan citizen arrested by this Judicial Police would appear to be at the top of that criminal organization. For the crime in question it is there is a maximum sentence of 20 years.

The man, as a result of research carried out by the Flying Squad at the provincial level, he was tracked down in a city center hotel, arrested and taken to the Mantua prison, available to the territorially competent Court of Appeal of Brescia.

The arrest was validated and at the same time the precautionary measure of custody was applied in prison awaiting the definition of the extradition procedure.
