The most advanced digital technologies at the service of the Public Administration to create the evolved city model will be illustrated at Palazzo San Giacomo. The Campania stage falls within the scope of the project “Italy of intelligent and sustainable cities. Digital and implementation tools at the service of the local PA" which is affecting some of the main Italian cities. More livable, sustainable and safe urban spaces, thanks to new technologies also capable of enhancing the rich cultural and artistic heritage. This is the Smart City model that emerged today in Naples during the event “The Italy of intelligent and sustainable cities. Digital and implementation tools at the service of the local PA", organized by ANCI and TIM Enterprise, the Group's business unit dedicated to companies and public administrations, with the aim of illustrating the latest technological innovations and opportunities for urban and territorial contexts available to local administrations in Campania.

The event, hosted by Giulio di Giacomo, Head of Governance & PMO, Chief Public Affairs & Security Office TIM, took place in the Council Room of Palazzo del Municipio in the presence of Gaetano Manfredi, Mayor of Naples, Carlo Marino, President of ANCI Campania and Mayor of Caserta, and Maria Grazia Falciatore Head of Cabinet of the Municipality of Naples. Elio Schiavo, Chief Enterprise and Innovative Solutions Officer of TIM, illustrated the development prospects of the "cities of the future", underlining TIM Enterprise's focus on this rapidly growing sector.

The initiative aims to show how innovation at the service of local PA can accelerate the development of sustainable and intelligent cities and the achievement of the objectives of the PNRR, highlight the impacts on the urban environment and on the lives of citizens of functional choices to the creation of a Smart City and provide evaluation tools that allow public administrators to make effective decisions. In fact, according to estimates by the TIM Study Center, by 2027 investments in ICT solutions for smart cities will grow to around 1,6 billion euros, while at a global level the total spending in Smart Cities will reach a value of over 1.000 billion of dollars. In particular, in the period '23-'27, Smart City applications based on 5G, IoT and Artificial Intelligence in Italy will contribute to reducing overall city traffic costs by approximately 6,5 billion euros and costs of over 400 million euros linked to urban pollution thanks to better planning of public and private transport and tourist flows. The new technologies will also allow an annual reduction of approximately 650 thousand tonnes of CO2 emissions, directing the tourism industry and optimizing services for citizens.

“Naples blends past and modernity, tradition and aptitude for transformation. The city is regaining a prestigious role on the international scene, as an attractive tourist, cultural and social hub, but the Administration is also working to address the challenges towards which the digital transition is pushing our society. We are taking important steps towards a smart city on digitalisation, computerization and infrastructure. The watchword must always be service to the citizen: innovation and technological progress are useful when they place the well-being of those who live in the city on a daily basis". Thus the mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi. “My Administration is working precisely in this direction, adopting measures in line with the objectives of the digital transition: think, in this regard, of the introduction of the online booking method for obtaining the CIE, with a notable reduction in processing times. completion of the practice; strengthening the areas reached by a high-performance internet connection and investing in training citizens on digital knowledge; in the context of the ecological transition we work to promote the development of sustainable mobility, with solutions that are advantageous for the environment and for the city", explains Manfredi.

“Smart cities represent a system model that guarantees more services to citizens, which creates more social cohesion and which increases competitiveness. To do this we must work with national and international stakeholders and build models, best practices that constitute, even for small and medium-sized municipalities, a possibility to become smarter and, at the same time, offer more opportunities to citizens. To build models you need to have resources but also spend them well. This is why we need projects consistent with social and economic sustainability", stated the president of ANCI Campania Carlo Marino.

“Smart Cities are at the center of our strategy and we offer local administrations our technologies and skills to design the cities of the future and achieve important objectives of economic development, cost control and more efficient processes – declared Elio Schiavo, Chief Enterprise & Innovative Solutions Officer of TIM -. We are convinced that in a few years we will witness a process of important transformation of cities because they will adopt innovative services that will improve dialogue with citizens, administrative processes, transport and safety. This is thanks to our innovative digital platforms that integrate Artificial Intelligence, IoT, cloud, cybersecurity, 5G and fiber connectivity, integrating the best proprietary technologies and contributions from startups, scaleups and the world of innovation. In a city like Naples I underline how technology plays a fundamental role in enhancing the cultural and artistic dimension of places, because the beauty and history of Italian cities can have a new life and new perspectives thanks to innovation".
