With the reopening of schools, the State Police is restarting the project “Train… to be cool”.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the project legal education “Train…to be cool”, which brings the Police into schools to promote railway safety.

The initiative, in the 2023/2024 school year, made it possible to meet over 6.000 students from elementary, middle and high schools, out of a total of 63 institutes, in the three regions of competence of Puglia, Basilicata and Molise.

“Train…to be cool” It is a project conceived in synergy with the Ministry of Education, University and Research, which provides moments of meeting and dialogue between teachers, elementary, middle and high school students and the Railway Police.

The objectives are multiple, such as stimulating awareness among young people of the risks present in the "railway scenario", countering dangerous actions such as throwing stones at trains and placing rocks on the tracks and spreading the culture of legality and safety among students, making them aware of their own and others' safety.

The police officers, also through the screening of films, illustrate to the students simple rules to avoid putting their safety at risk: crossing the yellow line at the station, distracting oneself by using headphones to listen to music, crossing the tracks without using the underpass, crossing the level crossings with the barriers closed or even walking close to the embankments are habits whose possible consequences young people often underestimate, exposing themselves to the risk of serious accidents.

Behaviors that, while they may save time, in some cases have not saved young lives.

The meetings aroused great interest among the young people, who appreciated the initiative and actively participated, also by asking numerous questions regarding the profession of policeman and competitions in the State Police.

Among the opportunities offered, this year too there will be the possibility of holding meetings directly on board the train, during school trips that the children will take using the railway.
