The Emilia Romagna Region invests in trees and launches two new tenders

The Region invests in trees, essential in the fight against climate change, launches two new calls for proposals, one for public bodies and one for lowland businesses. It makes available 1,6 million euros to cover the cost, purchase and technical expenses for the creation of wooded areas and hedges in the lowlands using native plants of Emilia Romagna. Applications can be made by August 24.

More trees in the city and in the plains. Are they, in fact, one of the main allies in combating climate change, increase the capture of carbon dioxide and major pollutants, mitigate temperatures, improve the quality of life e make cities more beautiful, for the benefit of the whole community.

The Region strengthens its commitment to make Emilia-Romagna the green corridor of Italy e launches two new tenders aimed at public bodies and businesses in the plains and hills – where the 3% of the regional wooded area – as part of the Let's put down roots for the future campaign.

A total of resources of 1,6 million euros are available, that will be used to recognize contributions that can reach up to 100% of the cost incurred for the creation of wooded areas and tree-lined hedges.

There are many species that can be used: oaks, hornbeams, rowans, maples, lindens, elms, poplars to give just a few examples, provided they are native to Emilia-RomagnaThis is an important requirement, also to guarantee the greatest chances of taking root.

While in October the free distribution of plants to citizens, schools and associations will resume through a network of 21 affiliated nurseries, another of the measures envisaged by the campaign Let's put down roots for the future, which is suspended like every year during the summer period.

"In these five years of legislature the numerous initiatives for forestation have met with excellent success among citizens, businesses and public bodies - underlines the councilor for Forestry, Parks and Biodiversity Barbara Lori-, confirming the fact that trees guarantee irreplaceable functions and services, improve air quality, protect biodiversity and make our cities more livable and beautiful. With these new calls we address the municipalities of the plains and hills, and businesses, inviting them to fully exploit the resources made available by the Region, increasingly encouraging the creation of new wooded areas and hedges. For an Emilia-Romagna that is increasingly greener and more beautiful thanks to the precious collaboration of the entire community”.

The tender for public bodies

It is aimed at municipalities, Unions of Municipalities, Metropolitan city of Bologna, Provinces, protected area management bodies the second edition of the announcement which puts a provision of 1 million euros to finance, with full cost coverage, three types of intervention with different degrees of coverage density – 700, 500, 400 plants per hectare – and contributions of 25 thousand, 20 thousand and 15 thousand euros respectively.

Lowland entities will be able to participate in the tender o in any case of areas of the regional territory which have a woodland coefficient of less than 25%.

As well as for the purchase of plants – trees, but also shrubs - the resources will be used to cover the costs of working the land, for materials and, limited to the first year of planting, for irrigation. The projects must be sent to the Region by August 24th.

The tender for businesses

The resources available to companies based in Emilia-Romagna amount to 600 thousand euros who are committed to make areas available for the creation of wooded areas or tree-lined hedges. I contributions reach up to 75% of the cost and also in this case Coverage is provided not only for planting costs, but also for technical ones.

The maximum amounts of eligible costs are 25 thousand euros in the case of systems with no lower density to 700 plants per hectare and 18 thousand euros for those that require at least 500 plants per hectare. It is moreover The creation of tree-lined hedges is also planned and in this case the regional contribution reaches up to 20 euros per plant. Also for this announcement the deadline for submitting applications is August 24th.
