Rome, agreement signed between the Ministry of the Interior and AISCAT to increase safety on motorways
Yesterday the Chief of Police - General Director of Public Safety Prefect Vittorio Pisani and the Vice President of AISCAT signed the new agreement, renewed after 7 years, for the exclusive services of the Highway Police on the motorway network, consolidating the collaboration, in progress between the State Police and AISCAT (Italian Association of Motorway and Tunnel Concessionary Companies) to increase safety on the motorways.

It was signed, yesterday 17 July, by the Chief of Police - Director General of Public Security Prefect Victor Pisani e by the Vice President of AISCAT (Italian Association of Motorway and Tunnel Concessionaires) Engineer Roberto Tomasi, the new agreement between the Ministry of the Interior– Department of Public Safety ed AISCAT that renews, distance of 7 years from the previous one, the agreement for exclusive traffic police services on the motorway network under concession, consolidating the partnership and collaboration even further, over ten years old, underway between the State Police and the concessionaire companies sector.
La convention constitutes the instrument for directing and implementing the strategic lines and operations of the squeeze cooperation between the Traffic Police and the concessionaire companies, strengthening their mutual commitment, too through the strengthening of the resources and equipment used and the development of new and more effective intervention models, to further increase safety and efficiency standards on motorways under concession.
The motorway traffic system represents a priority for the State Police who, with the Specialization of the Traffic Police, ensures vigilance by deploying a patrol every 40 km on average, with exclusive competence for interventions in the motorway sector.
The motorway network under concession, which sees around 6.100 million travelers passing through the 5 km that make it up every day, he recorded, in the last few years 10 years, faced with an increase in traffic volumes of 13% a decrease in accident rates of approximately -7%, and with a reduction of almost -19% of the number of victims and -6% of the number of injured – with 39 lives saved and over 600 fewer injuries in 2023 compared to 2014 – confirming the validity of the synergy developed in the management of safety services on the motorway.
The cooperation developed between the Traffic Police and AISCAT on the motorway sections under concession takes shape in forms of coordination and joint actions for the overall improvement of the service provided to users and to increase the levels of safety and efficiency of major roads.
