From healthy plant 2024: 152 new trees in the city of Lecce to fill the small empty flowerbeds

Donation and sponsorship by Monteco and CM Recuperi

From healthy growth 2024: 152 new trees in the city of Lecce to fill the small flowerbeds left empty.

There are 152 new trees that will be planted in the city thanks to the "Di healthy plant" project, which involves the donation and sponsorship of specimens of various species in different neighborhoods by two private companies, Monteco and CM Recuperi, already partners of the Sector Environment of the Municipality of Lecce in some services.

The object of project, by the municipal administration, is to transform portions of public places, currently not easily usable (strong sunlight, presence of empty holes or stumps that represent a danger), into places of optimal use (summer shading, protection from pollution, easy canopy management).

The new trees - according to the project drawn up by agronomist Cristina Rugge – they will fill the small flowerbeds, or holes, left empty after the removal or fall of the essences that previously occupied them. The roads affected by the intervention, chosen on the basis of citizens' reports, are via di Leuca (Leuca district), viale Oronzo Quarta (Ferrovia-Casermette district, up to the intersection with via Don Bosco), via Argento and via Stampacchia (Santa Rosa district), via Mincio (Santa Rosa neighbourhood), via Duca degli Abruzzi (Centro neighbourhood), via Adua (Central neighbourhood), via Adda (Santa Rosa neighbourhood), via Gentile (Mazzini neighbourhood), via Isonzo (Santa Rosa neighbourhood), via Adriatica (Santa Rosa neighbourhood). Rose).

In all cases, the need to intervene is due, firstly, to safety problems, because holes left empty or where there is still a stump can increase the risk of falls for pedestrians, and, secondly, for the need to redevelop the affected areas.

«I thank those who made this project possible, councilor Valli and the Environment Sector, and of course our partners, Monteco and CM Recuperi - underlines the mayor Carlo Salvemini who believed in this initiative aimed at strengthening our arboreal heritage in a fruitful public-private collaboration, because beautiful things are done together. The project was drawn up by agronomist Cristina Rugge. We have learned from the mistakes of the past when trees were planted in the belief that a benefit was guaranteed regardless, while over time we realized that even the most ordinary choice such as planting a tree in an urban context must take into account the climatic conditions, the tree species , soil nourishment, distances from other elements of potential interference. This is the work that we started with the excerpt of the regulation and which we will continue with the greenery plan and we are very happy about it. We cannot deviate from the objective of making the city increasingly green both by investing in urban parks and by investing in strengthening the tree heritage."

«I hope this project - declares the Councilor for the Environment Angela Valli – can continue over time, with the generosity of local companies. I was the one who chose the name "From healthy plant" because we are filling the empty holes of healthy plant with healthy plants that will have a beneficial effect on the environment and on the reduction of CO2 and will be nourished with good quality compost. I thank Monteco and CM recoveri for their willingness to make this generous and important donation for the city».

In choosing the species, priority was given to the local phytoclimate to limit maintenance and cultivation interventions as much as possible. need for irrigation of new plants, but also the soil situation and the surrounding context. Hence, therefore, the following choice of tree species: on viale Oronzo Quarta, pittosporum or privet, on via Argento, via Stampacchia and via Mincio, privet, on via Duca degli Abruzzi and via Adua, oaks, given that the size of the holes , distance from the front of buildings it is compatible with the maximum size reached by this species, in via Adda, Judas trees, in via Isonzo, pittosporo, in via Adriatica, Brazilian pepper trees and in via di Leuca, the prunus or flowering cherry trees.

Monteco, contracting company of urban hygiene service in the city, and CM Recuperi, the company that deals with recycling of street sweepings, of mowing and pruning for the Municipality of Lecce, through which the 10 benches located in the city parks were created, are committed to planting the 152 trees and assisting them until the end of December this year, through compost produced by CM Recuperi.

For Monteco, this donation of trees to the city has the aim of reducing the CO2 produced in the atmosphere by the vehicles used to carry out urban hygiene services within the municipal territory«Sow the future, plant a tree to reduce CO2 is a project designed to participate and support the Municipality of Lecce in the fight to reduce CO2 and, at the same time, to contribute to the further improvement of green areas and the redevelopment of urban greenery in the city in the game towards sustainability - declares Mario Montinaro, CEO of the Monteco SpA company – Commitment, moreover, already undertaken with the introduction of electric vehicles, replacing thermal ones, to carry out part of the urban hygiene services".

«We want to give, together with the municipal administration of Lecce, a strong signal – adds the CM Recuperi plant manager Antonella Serra - to support the circular economy. Cuttings and prunings delivered by the Municipality to our recovery plant, after an initial volumetric reduction and defibering treatment, are transferred to the composting plants and used as a structuring agent for the production of compost, thus closing the waste cycle in question. The resulting soil will be used to plant these trees with which we want to contribute to urban tree restoration with the related CO2 reduction. It is our responsibility to recover the relationship with nature to create a true culture of sustainability."

At the beginning of each row of trees that the Municipality will replant, a plywood sign will be placed with the name of the project, the beneficiary municipality and the donor companies.
