Naples: Manfredi speaks at World Refugee Day: “Urgent solutions for those fleeing war and poverty”.
The Municipality of Naples celebrates today the World Refugee Day in collaboration with the Metropolitan City of Naples and in partnership with the Management Bodies of the SAI (Integration Reception System), with the University L'Orientale of Naples and with the UNHCR. Refugee Day is the annual event established by the United Nations to recognize the strength and courage of millions of people forced to flee around the world because of war, violence, persecution and violations of human rights.
During the morning the US Consul General in Naples, Tracy Roberts Pounds he donated volumes in Italian and English to the Municipality of Naples for the creation of reading points in the offices of the SAI and the Immigrants' Council.
“The celebration of World Refugee Day prompts profound reflections on the need for effective and urgent solutions to give a new perspective on life to all those peoples who experience the horror and suffering of war, poverty and marginalization and who seek salvation in a new country.”
Thus the Mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi “A celebration that today takes on an even deeper meaning in light of the conflicts and humanitarian tragedies we witness every day. Naples is a city that has made hospitality a vocation and represents for many immigrants a glimmer of light to rebuild the foundations of a new existence, far from a past of suffering and pain. Hospitality is therefore not a mere act of charity and solidarity, but a concrete action for the effective development of a new life project. My Administration has worked hard in this direction, implementing policies and actions aimed at the real integration of immigrants into the social fabric of the city. A work that has also materialized thanks to the support of local associations and the third sector”.

The participation of the Prefecture, Police Headquarters, Region, UNHCR and all the bodies in the city that are committed with great experience and competence, but above all with profound humanity, in the Immigration sector, confirm the great networking work that is being done and that has as its first objective to overcome the emergency approach in favor of integrated, structured, coherent and efficient interventions".
