A progressive change in the vehicle fleet that enters Area B and Area C on a daily basis in favor of less polluting engines and a general decline in entries into the Milanese limited traffic zones.  These are the main data photographed byAmat's latest report (Environment and Territory Mobility Agency), which in addition to the comparison of the months of April and May 2024 with the same period last year, includes the analysis of the engines of the cars entering the city.

Change of vehicle fleet

The analysis of the different types of vehicle propulsion is noted, by custom, in the month of February, characterized by the absence of holidays or events which can influence the trend of transits from one year to the next.

In detail, le hybrid cars have almost doubled in two years, passing from 9% in 2022 to 17% in 2024. Combined with electric cars, they represent almost a fifth of the vehicles entering Area B.

For diesels represent, in February 2024, 30% of transits detected at the ZTL gates: they were the 40% in 2022.

This evolution of the car fleet towards increasingly less polluting vehicles only confirms the meaning of the provision, born for affect emissions. Please remember that between 2022 and 2023, thanks to Area B, has was able to avoid the emission of 150 tonnes of NOx (data estimated based on the certified emissions of each vehicle entering the ZTL).

"Data on the car fleet, available for the third consecutive year - comments Arianna Censi, councilor for Mobility - demonstrate the effectiveness of Area B and Area C. The change in fleet entering the city, with a different trend from that which occurs in the rest of the country, also has the beneficial effect of reducing emissions of nitrogen oxides, considered very pollutants. A benefit for the quality of the air we breathe every day."

Analysis of mobility indices

regarding information on the different mobility trends detected in the months of April and May 2024 one emerges substantial stability for access to Area B in April 2024 (+ 0,1%) compared to the previous year and a more significant decline in May (-1,8%).

- admissions to Area C were instead decreasing for both months, with a decline in April (-0,8%) and a more substantial decrease (-4,9%) in May.

- access to public transport continues to increase: +2,2% in May and +12,7% in April, increase probably linked to the Design Week which this year recorded +20% in attendance. Just as they increase those at the interchange car parks: +20,7% in April and +6,1% the following month.

The use of shared vehicles is decreasing, except for bicycles which saw an increase in both months (+9,3% for April and +3,7% for May). The car sharing records a -19,7% for the month of April and a –23,3% for May; slightly the decline in percentage of scooter use is more limited (-10,8% in April and -19,9% ​​in May).
