Trains, Milano – Mortara, by June another new convoy will travel the line from the regional capital to Alessandria
“A first concrete step towards strengthening a line that has been causing inconvenience to travelers for too long.” Thus Franco Lucente, regional councilor for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, spoke at the Porta Genova station at the presentation of the 2 new Caravaggio trains which starting today, Monday 5 February, are operating on the route Milano Mortara Alessandria.
"The introduction of the Caravaggio trains demonstrates the commitment of the Lombardy Region to improving the quality of the service offered, especially on a route that presents strong critical issues. The new trains, which carry out a third of the scheduled trips on the route, will allow for comfortable and more convenient travel. The goal is to increase the punctuality index along the entire line. Now, however, to make the Milano Mortara is truly competitive, it is necessary as soon as possible to start the infrastructural interventions planned for some time: only in this way will we be able to provide commuters with an excellent service".
A TOTAL OF 570 SEATS AND 18 FOR BICYCLES – The new trains run between the stations of Milano Porta Genova and Alessandria in compositions of five double-decker carriages, with 570 seats. They are equipped with 18 places for bicycle storage; at each seat there are USB and electrical sockets for charging smartphones and tablets. The two new Caravaggio trains operate 16 of the 48 total on the route.
“The fleet renewal plan continues – adds LucentAnd -. With the two latest additions, the number of new trains in service on the Lombardy lines rises to 146. A third 'Caravaggio' will be in service by June. There will be 214 by 2025, following an investment of 1,7 billion euros by the Lombardy Region. A notable effort that also involves the Pavese lines. On the line Milano-Pavia-Voghera-Alessandria 100% of the service is carried out by Caravaggio; on Milano-Pavia-Stradella the entire offer is guaranteed by the new Donizetti single-deckers. The Colleoni diesel-electric trains run on the non-electrified lines Pavia-Codogno, Pavia-Vercelli, Pavia-Alessandria".
