Macerata, on March 15th, is dedicated to anorexia, bulimia and other nutrition and eating disorders. National Lilac Bow Day, as required by the Directive of the President of the Council of Ministers of 8 May 2018. Day on which the Municipality of Macerata participates by providing patronage and lighting the Sferisterio arena in lilac welcoming the request made by the Eating Disorders Families Association.
“Eating disorders are increasing among young people and no longer only affect girls but also boys – intervenes vice mayor and councilor for social services Francesca D'Alessandro -. Symptom of a psychological malaise that is increasing and the indicator is the unhealthy relationship with food. We need to work so that there is more attention to the health, well-being of young people and their necessary internal balance for a healthy and balanced life."
Nutrition and eating disorders occur most often between the ages of 15 and 19, but the age of onset, in fact, is getting lower and lower, mainly affect women, but cases among young people are growing, especially in this period of health emergency where the pandemic has led to an increase in eating disorders of around 30% throughout the national territory and also in our region.
For this the municipal administration, taking the opportunity of National Lilac Bow Day, wants to continue to shine the spotlight on the priority of increasing knowledge and in particular the ability to recognize these diseases among young and very young people on the part of family members and healthcare workers.
Il Municipality of Macerata by joining the Lilac Bow Day, wants, at the same time, raise public awareness on this issue and increase awareness of the impact that these pathologies have on the lives of young people and continue on the path of improving the quality of life of patients and families.
