Genoa: protocol between the State Police and ANCI Liguria aimed at preventing and combating cyber crimes that target “critical” information systems considered essential for the functions of Ligurian municipalities.

The Director of the Operations Centre for Cyber Security of the Postal Police for Liguria, Dr. Alessandro Carmeli and the General Director of ANCI Liguria, Dr. Pierluigi Vinai have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the prevention and fight against cyber crimes to protect the information systems and technological infrastructures used by ANCI Liguria and the Municipalities it represents.

With the agreement, which is part of the broader “PRO-C2SI Project” – Project for Cyber security of Italian municipalities – and constitutes a direct implementation of the provisions of the Convention signed in July 2023 by the Chief of Police – General Director of Public Security and the President of ANCI, the parties undertake, first of all, to adopt intervention procedures and to implement a constant exchange of information for the protection of digital infrastructures and databases managed by the Ligurian municipalities.

This synergy will help provide both parties with the necessary knowledge on the main threats and on the methods of carrying out the most insidious cyber attacks, characterized by a constant evolutionary trend.

A further corollary of the agreement signed today is the possibility of organizing training courses dedicated to technicians and managers of local administrations, aimed at improving the safety and effectiveness of services provided to the community.

The State Police has been carrying out for some time now, exclusively, through the CNAIPIC, National Anti-Cybercrime Center for the Protection of Critical Infrastructures of the Postal and Communications Police Service of Rome, a significant activity of prevention and repression of computer crimes, of common, organized or terrorist origin, which target computerized infrastructures of a critical nature and of national importance.

The document was signed at the Liguria Digitale Auditorium, in the Erzelli headquarters, in the presence of the Prefect of Genoa, Dr. Cinzia Torraco, the Police Chief of Genoa, Dr. Silvia Burdese, and with the participation of the General Director of Liguria Digitale, Eng. Enrico Castanini.

The Protocol with ANCI Liguria further consolidates the close synergy between the Operations Center for Cyber Security of the Liguria Postal Police and Liguria Digitale, which has already signed a memorandum of understanding with ANCI Liguria and in whose headquarters is present the Cyber Security Lab, a laboratory with sophisticated and cutting-edge equipment and technologies, made available to the Postal Police and Cyber Security, inaugurated in February of last year.
