Genoa: Fight against organized crime, applications open in September for the new regional call for municipalities that redevelop assets confiscated from the mafia.

The Liguria Region has approved in its council the new call for tenders dedicated to municipalities that intend to redevelop assets confiscated from organized crime and the mafia.

In particular, thanks to the new 600 thousand euro instrument, Ligurian local authorities will be able to request up to 100 thousand euros in non-repayable funding from the Liguria Region. This contribution, in the event of two applications submitted by the same authority, can reach 150 thousand euros.

The regional incentive is granted to cover 80% of the investment made, 90% if a small municipality requests it (up to 5 thousand inhabitants).

“There was a lot of anticipation for the release of this tender, which has a greater financial allocation than in the past – explains the regional councilor for Economic Development and Security – After the properties returned to the Ligurian community with the 2022 Call, we hope, with these 600 thousand euros, to give new life to other assets confiscated from organized crime. The action of the Liguria Region with this measure, which from now on, thanks to the recent regional law 2/2024, will have its own annual budget chapter, is twofold: to promote the culture of legality and to accompany the municipalities in the recovery of the urban and building heritage".

Expenses incurred are eligible for contributions, starting January 1, 2024, for the recovery and refunctionalization of the confiscated property for social or institutional purposes. They can apply for a grant, by 2 30 to September, at the pec address protocol@pec.regione.liguria.it, the Ligurian local authorities already recipients of the confiscated property for which they are requesting the relief and those municipalities that have allocation procedures underway at the National Agency for the Administration and Allocation of Assets Seized and Confiscated from Organized Crime (ANBSC).

This extension also represents a novelty of the aforementioned regional law (lr 2/2024), introduced with the hope that it can constitute an incentive for municipalities to submit expressions of interest to the National Agency, as well as speed up the related direct procedures to the assignment of goods.
