Foggia, project for the protection of doctors in the emergency room of the Polyclinic: agreement with the Police Commissioner Ferdinando Rossi. 

The State Police of Foggia has started a project to protect the doctors and nurses on duty in the local emergency room of the Polyclinic e they will be equipped with a portable device capable of forwarding emergency calls with intervention priority directly to the 113 operations room, which from May 1st will become 112 Nue (Unique emergency number).

It is one of the initiatives that fall within theagreement between the Police Commissioner Ferdinando Rossi and the General Director of the Polyclinic, Giuseppe Pasqualone, which led to the purchase and delivery of warning devices to doctors and nurses.

"We have adopted a new and additional emergency initiative – says Police Commissioner Rossi – which is in addition to the dedicated landline telephone line between the operations room of the Foggia Police Headquarters and the security guards station present in the emergency room".

"In a possible difficult situation – adds Director General Pasqualone – you can press the button on the alarm device and a hands-free call will start. Direct contact will therefore be established between the State Police operator and healthcare personnel, to allow timely intervention by the police".

The initiative is part of the prevention and active presence activity of the State Police to protect the safety, not only of healthcare personnel, but also of all citizens who go to hospital for issues related to their health.

At a national level, all police services in hospitals have been strengthened, following the numerous attacks and threats that have been recorded against doctors, nurses and social and health workers, especially in emergency rooms.

The issue is under the attention of the Minister of the Interior and the leaders of the Department of Public Security and, at provincial level, has been the subject of detailed meetings of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security chaired by the Prefect of the province of Foggia.
