A €4.613.729,64 project to equip the Sardinian capital with a cutting-edge lighting system, improve consumption and enhance the artistic and monumental heritage; Consumption, reduced by 35%, will go from 805.785,13 kWh/year to 529.172,77 kWh/year; Urban sustainability and cutting-edge technologies for inclusive and sustainable mobility thanks to centralized traffic light management and digital information totems for citizens

THE PROJECT

The project, for a total investment of 4.613.729,64 € by City Green Light, was inaugurated on September 25 and will lead to the replacement of 5.171 light fixtures with latest generation LED sources, regulatory compliance and ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the systems.

With a system of remote control on all electrical panels which will guarantee greater safety and rapid intervention in case of need or faults.

The improvements will also affect the traffic light network, which will see the replacement of 26 lanterns with LED devices: at the end of the intervention, the energy saving will be 91% compared to the current situation.

Finally, with a view to further promoting the reduction of the environmental impact of city management, the supply of electricity for the power supply of public lighting will be derived, at least 100%, from renewable sources.

"The intervention, which starts today at the end of a complex investigation phase that unfortunately took longer than expected, will allow us to achieve savings in management, maintenance and on the energy bill, but also to improve the quality standard of the lighting network thanks to the use of new technologies. The intervention will also include specific lighting projects to enhance some of the most important monuments in the center, such as the Torre San Cristoforo, Palazzo di Città and Palazzo Campus Colonna with the redevelopment of the architectural lighting with RGB projectors for different color scenarios. Smart city services will also be implemented to offer citizens a more modern, efficient and well-being-oriented environment, including the redevelopment of traffic-lighted pedestrian crossings, with solutions for the mobility of the visually impaired". Explains the Mayor of Oristano Massimiliano Sanna.

“Lighting is much more than just light. Thanks to the trust that local governments have placed in us, in Oristano we have created an intelligent and sustainable system that enhances the artistic heritage and improves the quality of life of citizens. This is why we are excited to begin the implementation work of this important project. Thanks to the latest generation LED technologies and renewable energy, we will not only drastically reduce energy consumption and environmental impact, but we will also enhance the artistic and cultural heritage of the city. We are convinced that this intervention represents a fundamental step towards a smarter and more human-scale Oristano, where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.” He declares Fabrizio Ruggiero, Business Unit Director Central Italy & Additional Services of CGL.

ENHANCEMENT OF CULTURAL AND ARTISTIC HERITAGE

Not only energy efficiency, but also enhancement of the city's heritage.

Oristano preserves an architectural heritage of great importance, which testifies to the long history of the capital with monuments and buildings of great value, such as Torre San Cristoforo, Palazzo di Città, Palazzo Scolopi and Palazzo Campus Colonna.

And it is precisely to correctly valorise these artistic treasures that the City Green Light project also includes targeted interventions to improve architectural lighting, with RGB projectors for different color scenarios.

Furthermore, in order to ensure more uniform light throughout the historic center, the new lighting fixtures will be characterized by a warmer color temperature of 3.000K compared to the rest of the urban area where 4.000K lighting fixtures are and will be installed.

ORISTANO TOWARDS THE SMART CITY: TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT, INCLUSION AND CITIZEN SERVICES

Sustainability is not only measured by the efficiency of the use of resources, but also by the ability to generate well-being in citizens and create inclusion.

This is why City Green Light has planned to upgrade the traffic-lighted pedestrian crossings, with smart and technologically advanced solutions to ensure a greater safety and accessibility and facilitating mobility for the visually impaired.

Two totems, which will be placed respectively in Piazza Roma e Eleonora Square, will also provide useful real-time information on city life: from traffic to mobility, from ongoing local events to news relating to public services.

Finally, to promote sustainability and safety, a Charging station for electronic devices with integrated defibrillator.
