Tomorrow, at 11, the City of Bari will remember Sebastiano Gernone, businessman from Bari victim of mafia, with the unveiling of a plaque in the place where he lived, in via Manzoni 70.
The president of the Culture council commission of the Municipality of Bari will participate in the ceremony Giuseppe Cascella – first signatory of a motion approved unanimously by the city council to honor the memory of Gernone – other institutional authorities, the grandson of the same name of the murdered Bari businessman, the regional contact of Free Don Angelo Cassano and representatives of other associations committed to the issues of legality and the fight against mafias.
Sebastiano Gernone, born in Bari in 1890, former sailor on the Royal transoceanic ship “Calabria”, traded wines between Puglia and Sicily. He opposed the protection money that the mafia was demanding to his winery and he was killed in Sicily in 1930, victim of a remaining crime still without a culprit.
