Arezzo, cinema and sport: educational projects in Arezzo schools

The council has decided to join as a partner in two educational projects dedicated to cinema, of the IC Francesco Severi and the IC Cesalpino respectively, both promoted by the Ministry of Education and Merit and by the Ministry of Culture as part of the call “Cips” year 2023 “The cinematographic and audiovisual language as an object and tool of education and training”. “Cinebox: media, dreams and surroundings” is the project aimed at image education in its most complete meaning with which the Severi institute participates in the ministerial tender. The work prepared by the institute, leader of a network of schools in the province of Arezzo, involves the creation of film workshops in the lower and upper secondary schools belonging to the network, aimed at combating iconic illiteracy, strengthening skills, the training of an aware public and the provision of elements of knowledge theoretical/practical of one or more phases in which the creation of a cinematographic product is divided; all with the aim of promoting image education through knowledge, understanding and use of language cinematographic and audiovisual.

The project is of the same tone “The art of cinema: exploring, creating, telling” of IC Cesalpino, which aims to promote the understanding and use of cinematographic and audiovisual language among students with a focus on social inclusion. Through a learning by doing approach led by industry professionals, critical skills will be developed with respect to audiovisual products, aiming to increase emotional awareness and social interactions. The methodology is based on practical experiences, personalized for each participant, and focuses on the construction of inclusive and meaningful cinematic narratives. The educational and training course implemented by the project embraces the entire media literacy with an integrated intervention of theoretical, practical and experiential activities different from each other and differentiated by groups of students and age groups. Both projects are expected to be implemented in school years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025.

Not only cinema but also the promotion of sport within schools. The council approved the contribution to the project “School in the swimming pool. Swimming for everyone" promoted by the Regional School Office for Tuscany and by the Chimera Sports Center and intended for primary and nursery school students in Arezzo. Aimed at promoting swimming sports as a tool for social inclusion, in order to guarantee young students an opportunity to learn the minimum elements for safety and rescue and ensuring equal opportunities also for people with fewer economic possibilities and fewer skills, the lessons planned by the project, in which six classes of the primary schools of IC IV Novembre, Cesalpino and Severi will participate, will be held starting from January 16th and until the end of March. “It is the primary objective of this administration to make schools increasingly inclusive and rich in their educational and teaching offerings. The participation and contribution of the Municipality to the projects aimed at them confirms this attention", declared the deputy mayor Lucia Tanti.
