Verona: 745 thousand euros from the Forti legacy for the neediest.

An important legacy that since 1937 has allowed the Municipality of Verona to implement initiatives to support the city thanks to the income from the assets of Achille Forti's properties.

In fact, upon his death, the Veronese scholar bequeathed all his assets to the Municipality of Verona, providing assistance to people in difficult economic conditions through a "Foundation” and a “Bequest”.

This morning the municipal council approved the proposed resolution regarding the destinations for 2024 of the Forti legacy. This year, upon indication of the Supervisory Commission, the sums deriving from the foundation's assets and from the income of the bequest, for a total 745.000 of euros, have been budgeted and will serve to cover numerous activities of the social services of the Municipality of Verona.
In detail, the income will be used to pay the fees in residential facilities for the elderly and disabled in conditions of poverty (380.000 euros), to support citizens in conditions of socio-economic hardship with extraordinary contributions (260.000 euros), to provide the stays intended for insufficiently elderly people (5.000 euros) and finally climate stays for families with minors, family groups and foster families (100.000 euros).

“Forti's legacy continues to represent a significant contribution to supporting the activities of the Municipality of Verona” – recalls the Councilor for Social and Housing Policies who also underlined how today citizens of Verona can choose to contribute to social policy projects with a simple but important gesture, that is, by donating their 5×1000 to the social activities implemented by the Municipality of Verona, through the fund “Extraordinary economic intervention to combat housing and socio-health hardship”, to meet the growing needs of new forms of poverty.

It is impossible to quantify how many have benefited from the generosity and foresight of the Veronese patron, especially in recent years where the activities promoted by the Department of Social Policies confirm a growing demand that requires continuous resources, supported by active and responsible participation by citizens .

The legacy of Achille Forti.

Probably unique in Italy for the value of its heritage, it dates back to 1937 and is composed with 922 apartments, 564 garages, 336 parking spaces, 2 warehouses, 8 shops, 2 offices and 8 other buildings. After almost a century, it continues to help the elderly and people in difficulty, as per the will of Forti himself, who in addition to being the great patron and benefactor of Verona, was also an important man of science. From a Jewish family, he died a year before the enactment of the racial laws, of which he was a victim even though he had already disappeared. In 1938, in fact, Palazzo Emilei Forti opened to the public as the city's new Modern Art Gallery.
