Sicily Region: Valley of the Temples, museum works on the Telamon completed.

A colossus of almost eight meters in height, an immense Telamon that arises from the merging of some large statues, the same ones that were placed between the columns of the famous temple of Olympian Zeus, of which only the ruins have reached us.
In the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento, the reconstruction of the figure-symbol of the power of Zeus who, according to the myth, forced the defeated giants to eternally support the "weight" of the temple dedicated to him, has just been completed.

The "unveiling" of the Telamon will be Thursday 29 February, at 11 am, in the Valley of the Temples. Present were the president of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani; the regional councilor for cultural heritage, Francesco Paolo Scarpinato; the director of the Valley of the Temples archaeological and landscape park, Roberto Sciarratta; the mayor of Agrigento, Francesco Micciché; the prefect of Agrigento, Filippo Romano; the curator of the museum project, Carmelo Bennardo, and the project's scientific expert, Alessandro Carlino.

The colossus rests on a corten steel structure, which alone exceeds ten metres. It was made by combining original blocks and fragments discovered as early as 1920 and preserved in the temple area that belonged to different Telamones.
It will be the heart of an impressive museum operation of the entire area on the basis of studies conducted for some years by Parco della Valle with the German Archaeological Institute.

Regione Sicilia: Valle dei templi, completati i lavori di musealizzazione del telamone.
