Spallanzani: Blood donation turns pink
An extraordinary blood drive in honor of Women's Day
Blood donation goes pink
A pink March 8th in the name of solidarity: Born Donors, together with the IRCCS National Institute for Infectious Diseases “Lazzaro Spallanzani” and with the support of the Italian Red Cross, organized an extraordinary blood collection.
Women for women and beyond: on the front line will be the healthcare staff of Spallanzani who will be supported by operators from the State Police and the Fire Brigade.
This morning in the square in front of Spallanzani, a Red Cross blood truck with specialized medical personnel welcomed donors who wanted to make a gesture of solidarity.
“Being a blood donor means always being there and making a contribution to medical progress. The involvement of young people in blood donation is one of the fundamental objectives of DonatoriNati –says Claudio Saltari, national president of DonatoriNati State Police– and the sustainability of the blood system depends on the contribution of the new generations. The emancipation of women - and women know this well - also passes through the sense of solidarity, the ability to come together to grow, as individuals and as a society. We must be open and supportive, recognizing, and not hindering, the excellence and value of everyone" concludes Claudio Saltari.
For the Director General of INMI Spallanzani, Dr. Angelo Aliquo, “Blood donation is one of the indicators of the social capital of a community, an indicator of how much the members of a community care for the community itself. Healthcare workers know well how important and irreplaceable the availability of blood, plasma and platelets is to guarantee healthcare activities and life-saving treatments. Promoting blood donation by example is one of the clearest signals that can be given for the diffusion of the culture of health and solidarity. We are happy to participate in this day and invite those who are able to donate."
The notes of the State Police Fanfare accompany the donation.
