“Olive growing is an important tool for environmental and landscape protection, as well as for the economic and tourism development of the area – specifies the Mayor Massimiliano Sanna -. This administration stands alongside producers to support a very important sector."

“By joining the association we are committed to promoting its institutional aims – underlines Councilor Fozzi -. In particular we will intervene for greater protection and knowledge of the quality of Italian extra virgin olive oil with particular reference to the DOP (protected designation of origin) and the IGP (protected geographical indication), and the environmental, landscape, artistic and historical resources of the territories with a particular olive growing vocation. The objectives also include the creation of conditions for a permanent exhibition of valuable oils, the coordination and organization of promotional, technical and cultural events on oils, the creation of informative works, tourist maps and any other educational aid aimed at understanding the olive-growing territories Italians. The Municipality will also be in the front line to stimulate the spread of the civilization of oil, also through museographic collections and permanent exhibitions of the history of oil, promote the culture of the Mediterranean diet, a UNESCO cultural and intangible heritage of humanity in its various historical implications , anthropological and cultural and to promote collective events to encourage the exchange of experiences and mutual knowledge between producers and visitors of the countries and cities of extra virgin olive oil".

“By joining the Italian Association of Oil Cities, important collaborations can be created that are useful for developing opportunities for growth and valorisation of the territory – adds Councilor Fozzi -. The first collaboration is with Slow Food, which has always been committed to protecting and promoting quality Italian olive growing. With the Guide to Extra Virgin Olive Oils, he established a protection project: the Slow Food Presidium of Secular Olives, which promotes the environmental, landscape, health and economic value of ancient olive groves and groups together producers who do not use synthetic fertilizers and chemical herbicides. In the Oristano area there are 7 Slow Food Presidia of centuries-old olive trees, all extra virgin oils which have also received the coveted "Grande Olio Slow" award: Treslizos - Semidana and Donna Marisa Dop Sardegna by Antonella Anna Maria Orrù - Massama (Or ); S'ARD – Semidana by Franco Ledda – Oristano; Ollu – Tonda di Cagliari and Ollu – Semidana di Rovelli – Oristano; Terre dei Giganti of Sinis Agricola – Consorzio Terre dei Giganti – Cabras (Or); Semidana of Tanca Barbarossa – Oristano”.
