Naples: for the third consecutive year the traditional mussel soup was offered by CAAN to the guests of the public dormitory in via De Blasiis.
Also this year the edition of the "Solidarity Mussel Soup" took place, the charitable initiative, promoted by the CAAN in synergy with the Welfare and Productive Activities Departments of the Municipality of Naples, was held for the third consecutive year at the First Reception Center in via De Blasiis. Here around a hundred homeless people and people living in conditions of socio-economic hardship, guests of the municipal reception facility, celebrated Holy Thursday thanks to the generosity of the operators of the Fish Market of the Volla agri-food center who, on the occasion of Easter, they donated tons of fresh products for the preparation of the traditional Neapolitan mussel soup.
“This event, now fixed every year, where ISTAT finds one in ten Italian families below the poverty line has an even more important symbolic value – explains the Welfare councilor Luca Fella Trapanese –. Our desire is to confirm all our commitment every day so that the resources and projects put in place are able to stem this rampant phenomenon, common to all large cities".
“It is not the first time that CAAN accompanies us in this type of initiative – underlines the councilor for Productive Activities Teresa Armato –. And it does so by confirming not only excellence in the agri-food sector, but also by giving a sign of closeness and solidarity to those people who live in conditions of greater hardship and vulnerability in our city".
“We were very proud – states CAAN president Carmine Giordano – to have replicated this project once again. For our fish market, Holy Thursday is by far the day with the highest influx of buyers. Nonetheless, our operators never shy away from the possibility of giving to charity, and for this I will never stop thanking them."
In addition to the fundamental generosity of fish wholesalers, the initiative makes use of the logistical support and collaboration of the Cooperativa Napoli Libera, as well as the Professional Institute for Food and Wine “Antonio Esposito Ferraioli” of Naples, whose teachers and students will take care of both the preparation of the dishes and the table service.
