Naples: day of commitment in memory of the victims of the mafia, ceremony in front of the plaque in memory of Falcone and Borsellino.

“Remembering the victims of the mafia means renewing the commitment of the State and civil society to combat all forms of organized crime”.

This, for the mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi, is the meaning of “National day of remembrance and commitment in memory of the victims of the mafia” which the Municipality wanted to celebrate in Piazza Municipio with a ceremony in front of the tree of legality and the plaque in memory of the magistrates Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino and the women and men of their escorts.

“We must convey this commitment – added the mayor – especially to the younger generations because a common effort is needed to nourish the principle of legality which is the basis of our democracy”.

“The memory of the mafia victims – observed the councilor for Legality Antonio De Iesu – it must be constantly nourished and not reduced to a ritual gesture because it represents an investment in young people, to whom we must explain that the sacrifice of magistrates, policemen and entrepreneurs was not in vain, but demonstrates how there are institutions and common people who, out of a sense of responsibility, they don't look the other way."
