Liguria in the field of healthcare, civil protection and third sector to welcome children and families from the Gaza Strip
Liguria Region in the control room together with the Prefecture of La Spezia and the government bodies for the reception of 60 people from the Gaza Strip, arriving Monday January 5th at the port of La Spezia on board the “Vulcano” ship of the Italian Navy. In addition to the hospitalization of some children - 4 expected at the Gaslini hospital, while others will be transferred to other regions - a reception coordination plan for families was necessary. Therefore, the Liguria Region immediately took action together with the Gaslini hospital and various Third Sector bodies in finding a solution for food and accommodation for those who do not require hospitalization. Region has therefore involved Community of Sant'Egidio, Caritas, Arci and the Federation of Evangelical Churches, to guarantee concrete help to families. Equally important is the contribution of the Department of Civil Protection, which will take care of the transport of 5 people from Liguria to the hospitals of Milano for the necessary care.
“The ports of Liguria are always ready to collaborate with the Government. The crisis in the Middle East affects us closely, not only from an economic point of view, but also and above all human - comment by the president of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti and the councilor for Social and Civil Protection Giacomo Giampedrone -. We immediately moved to guarantee assistance and coordination between the interlocutors involved in the disembarkation operations. Collaboration with the Third Sector, but also with our Civil Protection and our healthcare is very important. We believe it is right that everyone does their part – add – the Government is right to share the burden and efforts in a country that must show solidarity. We therefore remain at the disposal of the Prefecture and the authorities responsible for managing the operation".
“Even the healthcare machine – adds Health Councilor Angelo Gratarola – is ready to welcome young patients from the Gaza Strip through the great skills of the Giannina Gaslini Institute within an already well-established Civil Protection framework".
