Lecce: il comune premiato per il masterplan di rigenerazione delle marine

All ceremony attended remotely for the municipal administration the councilor for urban planning policies and the enhancement of marinas Rita Miglietta.

«I thank Legambiente and Touring Club for their attention towards the route – declares councilor Miglietta – which we undertook in the navies. What the municipal administration has done since the beginning of this mandate was to include the coast of Lecce within a path of cultural growth to bring out the collective values of these 20 km of coast. There are two objectives of the 2030 agenda which inspired us: the one which sees public bodies committed to increasing institutional awareness of new environmental issues and the one which refers to the right to green areas which we have translated into the right to the sea. Our coast has been, over a very long period of time, greatly sacrificed by phenomena of abandonment and widespread illegal construction, but in these 20 km of coast we have 5 sites of community interest, a system of coastal towers, examples of industrial archaeology, testimonies of reclamation, woods, dunes, coastal lagoons. We have tried to systematize these landscape values in a long-term vision that our coast has never had. Thanks to the CIS, we are trying to build lasting local development that sees tourism not as something aggressive and extemporaneous but as a lever for sustainable growth. For us it is a very tiring journey, it is not easy to convince the local community that the results will be seen over the next few years but we are trying hard. By programming and planning in an integrated way, we discovered that there are very high hydraulic and geomorphological hazards on our coast. We didn't know this before. There is sea rise, there is coastal erosion. Collective values of protecting nature and history cannot be built without securing local communities. Having an active approach to environmental emergencies and dangers is essential, otherwise even the tourism business risks being extremely fragile, as the flood in Emilia Romagna recently demonstrated to us".
