Cremona, drive through the main routes of the Plis del Po and Morbasco
Cremona, 5 June is the 46th anniversary of World Environment Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly on 15 December 1972 to commemorate the first UN Conference on the Environment, held in Stockholm in June 48 years ago. It was first celebrated in 1974 with the slogan Only One Earth.
World Environment Day is dedicated this year to the theme of the decline of the planet's biodiversity. It's time for Nature is in fact the slogan chosen for the 2020 edition to remember that the biodiversity crisis is not only an urgent but also an existential concern. Among the objectives of this day is to increase the knowledge and awareness of citizens, public administrations and all stakeholders both of the impacts of ongoing climate change and of the importance of implementing strategies to best protect the territory in the which we live.
In line with this year's theme, the Municipality of Cremona has created an easy guide of the natural routes included within the Plis (Local Park of Supra-municipal Interest) of the Po and Morbasco, of which it is the leading municipality. Easy to consult, the guide can be a stimulus to all those who want to live and learn more about the area where they live by discovering, firsthand, the characteristics of the Plis, which winds through various municipalities, a territorial band where also works to protect biodiversity.
The guide describes short routes that wind through oxbow lakes and wetlands, a short distance from the urbanized area or which, in some cases, wedge into it, along which it is possible to walk while observing, through direct contact, the flora and fauna. local fauna, learning to appreciate the many aspects of biodiversity and becoming increasingly aware of the importance of the natural resources available and which must therefore be protected.
“The Supra-municipal Local Park of the Po and Morbasco has been the subject of a valorisation process in recent years, it has been expanded through the involvement of new Municipalities, a regulation has been drawn up for its use, a program of interventions has been approved, new facilities capable of bringing together people, young people, families. The creation of this easy guide to the main routes within the Plis represents a further tool to promote knowledge, to visit these places in full respect of their vocation and realize how important it is to preserve them for the well-being of everyone and especially of generations future”, declares the Deputy Mayor Andrea Virgilio.
