Bari: the new community house for vulnerable women and minors named after Caterina Susca was inaugurated in Triggiano.

The new community home for vulnerable women and girls financed by the Welfare department of the Municipality of Bari, named after Caterina Susca (victim of feminicide) and managed by IFA Italia, was inaugurated this morning in via Dante 179, in Triggiano APS ASD.

Present at the inauguration were Caterina Susca's family members, the Welfare councilor Francesca Bottalico, the mayor of Triggiano Antonio Donatelli and the team of operators who will manage the service.

The apartment, on the first floor of an elegant building, extends for approximately 300m18, has 3 beds and XNUMX bathrooms as well as a large kitchen, a large common area dedicated to conviviality and a spacious veranda overlooking the terrace on the level equipped with a play area. All rooms are equipped with large windows which lead to a balcony that surrounds the entire apartment.

The structure is intended to offer hospitality to single women or women with minor children, women and minors who have escaped the circuit of violence, refugee women and minors, migrants or victims of trafficking, women subjected to executive eviction, new adults, self-sufficient women over the age of sixty-five.

The new community house intends to promote the integration and social inclusion of women by carrying out multifunctional interventions, in collaboration with the network of institutions - Municipalities, ASL, Social Welfare Services, CSM, SSP, Law Enforcement - and the associations present in the territory in order to encourage self-determination paths.

The women will be oriented and directed to local services and/or health centers and will be supported in planning meetings, medical visits, care practices, recreational and socialization activities.

“We are happy to inaugurate a new community house and social condominium aimed at single women or with children in situations of fragility and poverty – declares Francesca Bottalico -, which adds to the 25 designed and launched by the Welfare department in these nine years of political and social activities and programming.

From around 100 places in social structures (only at night or in tents), in recent years we have managed to create social condominiums, social houses and semi-residential co-housing for over 860 people, women, men and elderly people alone with social and socio-health services support. An extraordinary result, if you consider that many of them, otherwise destined for the streets and marginalization, today have a roof, a community with which to share their lives and the opportunity for a personal, working and social rebirth.

Today, in particular, we dedicate this new social house to Caterina Susca, one of the many victims of femicide at the hands of men in our city and, with her, to the too many women who, unfortunately, every day, despite their social, cultural and educational work, continue to be victims of violence and discrimination".

“The naming of this structure after my mother – declared Daniela De Sario, daughter of Caterina Susca – is a joy and an honor for my family. It is the demonstration of how good fruits can be born even from the saddest stories and the greatest pains. These structures are a wonderful opportunity for rebirth for the guests, as well as for us. Society needs to turn the page, new opportunities, a new look at the great issues of sociality. We are proud that my mother's name is a symbol of this. That her sacrifice was not a vain sacrifice, but the spark to awaken new sensitivities."

There are already 11 women guests of the new community house who have entered in recent days to start the project following a recommendation from the Social Services of the Municipality of Bari.
