Bari, construction work on the new garden in via delle Murge al Quartierino has begun.
From this morning in via delle Murge, in the Quartierino, construction work has begun for the creation of the equipped green area envisaged as part of the broader experimental action implemented by the Municipality of Bari for the increase of urban green (greening and forestation), the containment of climate change and the fight against the heat island effect - financed overall for 8 million euros from PON Metro.
The works on the area, which extends on a surface area of approximately 1.300 mXNUMX, have the aim of creating a meeting place surrounded by greenery, in a space previously dedicated entirely to roads, through the renovation of the area dedicated to the traffic island, the creation of a garden with play area, chess tables, shaded area equipped with inclusive tables and fitness area equipped with equipment for gentle gymnastics and calisthenics. The new lawn surface will extend su 260 m², while the new surface on the ground on 80 mXNUMX.
Overall, the project financed with 698 thousand euros, is aimed at enhancing the limited spaces available by concentrating the characteristic elements of increasing greenery in the city: planting of trees and grafting of tree species to create areas rich in vegetation, improving the living conditions of residents thanks to the services that, over time, will be generated by greenery, and increasing biodiversity and ecological potential.
“We are working intensely throughout the city to carry out urban greening interventions foreseen by the broader municipal plan which commits 8 million euros to improve the environmental quality of various public spaces in the city - comments Giuseppe Galasso -. In addition to the works in progress on the parking area adjacent to the Santa Chiara market in Japigia, on the Amendola park in via Amendola, on via Minervino, in Palese, in recent days there are construction sites for the interventions on the Rita Levi Montalcini garden, in Carbonara, and this one in via Delle Murge, in the Quartierino. The next construction sites will concern the redevelopment of the garden in via Caldarola, the green restyling of an area of the Sant'Anna district, Parco Gentile and via Dell'Andro, the refunctionalization and increase of the greenery of the Giovanni Paolo II park and the creation of a new green area via Gaetano Fiore, the latter both at San Paolo. Our objective is to continue to take care of public space to improve the quality of the urban places identified through redevelopment, de-waterproofing and increased greenery interventions which will provide them with new aggregative, recreational and sporting functions, while at the same time counteracting the increase in temperatures with the reduction of the heat island effect”.
The planned interventions are detailed below:
Road Works
The existing sidewalk along the east side (which runs along the border wall) will be in its entirety dismantled; During the works the existing traffic island will also be removed, a solution that guarantees the existing trees more space to grow. The sidewalk it will only be restored along the western slope. Along the roadway, in a southerly direction, we will try to guarantee as many parking spaces among the trees as possible placing cast iron grates saves trees at the same level as the road surface.
Playground
The rides that will be installed They consist of a double seat swing, a multifunctional toy with a slide, a swan-shaped spring toy, a musical panel and a bowl-shaped spring toy. The area will be set up with anti-trauma rubber flooring with increased thicknesses at the swing and slide.
Fitness area
It will be equipped with one bench equipped with pedals, a tool that simulates bicycle movements, an inclusive tool intended for training the mobility of the arms and a tool intended for enhance the work of the back muscles while sitting.
Green area
The intervention will allow us to increase the number of trees present, which are in good condition but are concentrated solely in the traffic island, to expand the ecological and biodiversity reservoir in an area of the city where the city-countryside boundary is marked, improving the site intervention also from a landscape point of view.
The planting of trees and shrubs will lead, over time, to a general improvement in the contextual conditions positive effects on the microclimate, through the reduction of the heat island effect, and on the aesthetic quality of the affected area.
The choice of plants fell on predominantly Mediterranean species, or in any case acclimatised, with reduced water and maintenance needs: as regards the trees, they will be planted 10 lime trees, 7 Hibiscus syriacus and 3 Laurus nobilis; as for the shrubs we opted for Abelia grandiflora, Agapanthus africanus, Rosmarinus officinalis prostrate and Lavandula officinalis, as well as thornless landscape red bushes.
A vegetal roof will be created along the perimeter wall with climbing plants of Parthenocissus tricuspidata and Rincospermum. The intervention will be completed by bulbous plants selected from among the most representative of the territorial area (e.g. Crocus spp., Muscari spp., Iris spp., etc.).
All plants will be served by a underfloor drip irrigation systema for emergency irrigation and guaranteed by a biodegradable mulch coated with volcanic lapillus.
Street furniture
During the works, two tables with chessboard, a ping pong table and a picnic table with inclusive access will be positioned. In the northernmost area, the current fountain will be replaced by a new inclusive fountain.
The lighting project
