Ancona, the Conero Park is assigned a storage center area linked to wild boar containment and meat supply chain projects

During the last meeting, the municipal council decided to assign an area in the Baraccola area (Via Fioretti) to the Conero Park on free loan for use as a temporary storage center for wild boar carcasses resulting from the containment activity of the species. The provision is linked both to trapping project of wild boars in urban areas started in recent months, and the traditional containment of ungulates implemented in the hunting sector and is part of the regional supply chain project for controlled game meat in the Marche Region. To give concrete implementation to these projects, the Conero Park has the task of guaranteeing “the conservation and enhancement of natural heritage”, especially promoting "the participation of the social forces present in the territory and the local authorities with which forms of collaboration and agreement are sought" needed a temporary storage center and to this end last year the Marche Region approved a loan of 80 thousand euros to the park authority for the installation of a cold storage room, to be installed in the Baraccola area.

“With the resolution approved yesterday by the municipal council - which assigns the area on loan for use for three years to the park authority - explains Heritage Councilor Angelo Eliantonio– the last step is taken in favor of a solution that is configured as an effective and efficient way for the correct management of meat by the Park Authority, the responsible body, and – upstream – the intensification of the containment activity thanks to the launch of the trapping project decided by the Municipality of Ancona in collaboration with URCA and the other interested parties".

“The park authority, thanks to the participation of the voluntary selectors- clarifies the President of the Conero Park Luigi Conte, - will create the collection center where the cold storage room in Ancona will be installed, in which the item picked up by the selector will be deposited. From here the carcasses will be transferred to another centre. For the park authority there are no economic advantages but the certainty of participating in a sustainable supply chain from an ecological, economic and socio-health point of view".
