Sassetta: Carabinieri meeting to support citizens against scams

The Carabinieri have long been dedicating a particular attention on a national scale beware of the phenomenon of scams against the elderly. In this regard, the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Livorno has constantly in place, through the dependent Commands throughout the territory of the province of Livorno, a widespread information campaign to disseminate and inform citizens in marriage to different types of scams and most frequent frauds and thus allow people, knowing some details as well as recurring dynamics of this phenomenon, to be able to defend themselves by adopting the appropriate suggested precautions.

In this regard, a valuable meeting was held in Rome, organised by the Commander of the local Carabinieri Station. Sassetta on Thursday 27 November, at 16pm, at the Council Chamber of the Municipality in via Roma.

On this occasion, the aforementioned Commander, in agreement with the Municipal Administration, provided the participants with some suggestions and important recommendations, also through the distribution of information brochures, on how to recognize the most frequent methods of deception implemented by scammers, and on how to behave accordingly, when you find yourself faced with possible scams both inside your own homes and outside.

In any case, two fundamental pieces of advice always apply: Don't let strangers into your home and, when in doubt, call 112 NUE without delay, always contacting the nearest Carabinieri Station

Further meetings on this topic will continue in the area: the next one will be held on November 29th at 16pm in Piombino at the premises of Pubblica Assistenza in via Giordano Bruno 23 and in collaboration with the members of Unicoop Tirreno.

The Carabinieri also reiterate, in light of the most recent episodes of fraud, that pay maximum attention to links on websites and particularly convenient online purchases, behind which, sometimes, hide unscrupulous people, dedicated to scams and deceptions.

Furthermore, during negotiations it is advisable to use direct communication tools, such as telephone calls, more easily traceable than simple messages via social networks and verify, even via the web, the real presence of companies or resellers. In case of doubt, you can always contact one of the 27 Carabinieri Stations in the Province of Livorno to express your suspicions and verify any doubts.

The recurrence of different types of scams requires recalling the precautions and measures that the Carabinieri of Livorno recommend in case of doubts and/or lack of knowledge of the interlocutor from whom you are approached for any type of agreement or request in which the request to perform an operation or a payment emerges, even and above all with means other than the use of cash, in particular the use of electronic payment instruments.

In this regard, in the above cases, as soon as you have suspicions, the advice is to ask maximum attention, do not open the door to strangers who show up at private homes, be wary of appearances and above all limit your confidence on the internet.

In case of receiving phone calls from landline or mobile numbers with prefixes or numbers compatible with the sender, for example of institutional offices or barracks, since currently there are frequent phenomena of cloning of numbers already assigned, it is good practice hang up, then close the suspicious conversation and call the number back to confirm that you are not dealing with yet another unknown scammer.
