The Carabinieri of the Anti-adulteration and Health Unit of Livorno were engaged in sector checks to monitor compliance with the regulations regarding the provision of food and beverages by public establishments on the Etruscan coast.
In particular, the military, following extensive checks carried out in public businesses on the San Vincenzo seafront, in compliance with the campaign called “quiet summer operation 2024 – beach establishments”, found irregularities in terms of food safety and sanitation in a public establishment attached to an establishment in the coastal area of ​​San Vincenzo, also authorized for the supply of food.

The Army inspectors found that the kitchen and food storage areas were in precarious hygienic-sanitary conditions due to the presence of waste from previous processes and previous dirt on the systems and equipment, the refrigerators were not equipped with a thermometer to detect the temperature and were Weeds, both alive and dead, were detected in various points of the flooring.

Furthermore, the Carabinieri found that various food products were stored inside the establishment for administration to customers, without traceability that would allow verification of their origin, in violation of the sector legislation that requires food to be stored in packages from which it is possible to deduce, among other things, the expiry date, origin and batch number, all essential and suitable requirements to ensure correct administration and consumption and therefore food safety.

The inspection ended with the seizure of all the food, approximately 15 kg, and with fines amounting to 3.500 euros. In collaboration with personnel from the Azienda Sanitaria Toscana Nord Ovest, the immediate suspension and inhibition of the activity was ordered until the critical issues were resolved.

Similar checks will continue throughout the provincial territory by the NAS in collaboration with the territorial police to protect public health and food safety.
