Portoferraio: Territory control, two driving licenses withdrawn 

The Carabinieri of the Portoferraio Company have carried out a extraordinary territorial control service, according to the guidelines shared by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety at the Prefecture of Livorno, aimed at preventing and combating the various forms of widespread illegality, with particular attention to combating drug use and alcohol abuse in order to ensure the priority safety of all road users.

The deployment of specific operational devices on the main roads of Portoferraio, and in the eastern part of the island, as well as in the most isolated areas of the island, have allowed us to proceed with the 24 vehicles and 45 people checked. To these was added the check of 2 people subjected to precautionary and preventive measures and of 2 public places.

The Carabinieri of the stations of Capoliveri, Rio and Porto Azzurro, supported by patrols of the Portoferraio Radiomobile Unit, have in fact carried out several checks on the main roads of Elba on road users to ascertain any alcohol abuse and drug use.

In particular, during the above-mentioned checks, in Portoferraio the following were Two drivers' licenses were withdrawn after being caught driving with a blood alcohol level higher than the permitted limit. The first to be sanctioned was a newly licensed woman in her thirties, for which the breathalyser supplied to the crew found an alcohol value of 0,71 g/l. The other, a boy over twenty, stopped with a blood alcohol level of 0,81g/l, was reported for drunk driving. The cars were entrusted to third parties fit to drive.

The activity to combat drug taking and alcohol abuse is aimed at guaranteeing road safety, as such illicit conduct constitutes a prominent risk factor both for the interested party and for other unaware road users and will continue on the entire provincial territory.
