Portoferraio: a man was subjected by the Carabinieri to the obligations derived from special surveillance.

The Carabinieri of the Portoferraio Company, following careful information-investigative analysis and monitoring activities towards those who have recently repeated criminal conduct, have subjected a man in his forties resident in the Elban territory, already known to the police and burdened by various prejudices, to the measure of special surveillance lasting 1 year.

This preventive measure was issued by the competent Section within the Court of Florence.

By virtue of the aforementioned provision, promptly notified by the military, a series of obligations and limitations were imposed on the interested party, such as access to public places as well as the prohibition to leave the house at night, but above all the meeting and association of people with criminal convictions.
The action of the Arma in the province of Livorno, in terms of crime prevention, is also expressed precisely through the request for the application of the so-called preventive measures; in fact, those who are the protagonists of serious crimes, such as those against the person and property, in matters of weapons and drugs, regardless of the final outcome of the criminal proceedings against them, in order to prevent them from committing new ones, are the recipients of timely and constant surveillance by the public security bodies, preventing them from repeating not only criminally relevant conduct but also so-called "antisocial behavior".

Personal preventive measures, special surveillance, oral warning, mandatory expulsion order from a municipality rather than the obligation to remain there, as well as the ban on access to public establishments, constitute, in this sense, a valid legal instrument for the Carabinieri operating - in parallel with the criminal proceedings - against individuals considered "socially dangerous", or the so-called "habitual criminals" dedicated in an almost chronic manner to contravening the rules and carrying out criminal actions that are sometimes the only proceeds from which they draw sustenance.
Therefore, preventive action is of fundamental importance to limit the risk of further endangering public safety and civil coexistence in small towns as well as in larger urban agglomerations.
In addition to the notification and surveillance in compliance with the provisions imposed by the special surveillance issued by the Judicial Authority, the Carabinieri of the Portoferraio Company, in order to guarantee peaceful collective coexistence, continue with specific reconnaissance and information gathering activities aimed at also imposing other preventive measures issued by the Provincial Public Security Authority.

Overall, since the beginning of 2024, the Portoferraio Carabinieri have requested and carried out twelve personal preventive measures on as many people, including minors, who have been responsible for crimes and/or antisocial behavior in the area in recent months.
