Livorno: Delivery of the Ship Trieste and Oath of Naval Academy Students
On December 7, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and of the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, took place on board Ship Trieste, the ceremony of Delivery of the Naval Unit and the Oath of the 150 First Class Naval Academy Officer Cadets.
“This ship is yours, built for you and for our country. For the first time, an oath of officer cadets takes place on a military ship. The Trieste is the fruit of the work of thousands of people: engineers, technicians, workers. Only a few nations can build such a work of ingenuity and high technology, which encompasses history, knowledge, advanced technology. But an empty ship is an instrument: its heart is you, your values, ideals and spirit of cooperation. Today you swear to serve the country, making our Armed Forces unique and special once again, as with every oath. To the families I say: for your children, Defence is your new family and will never leave you”.
Thus the Minister Crosetto in his speech during the ceremony, which was attended by representatives of the institutions, civil, military and religious authorities, as well as exponents of the industrial world.
