Livorno: take out car insurance online, but it's a scam

The Carabinieri report a person.

Livorno: buy car insurance online, but it's a scam.

The Carabinieri of the Ardenza Station reported a woman of Campanian origins to the Livorno Public Prosecutor's Office, believed to be responsible for fraud.
The story begins with an internet search by the victim, a 58-year-old resident of Livorno, to find a convenient car insurance. At the end, the man contacted by phone an insurance company that had convinced him, speaking with a woman who gave him a cost estimate, which the man decided to accept.

Convinced of the goodness of the negotiation, the victim completed the transaction by paying the agreed 383 euros via a bank transfer to the IBAN that had been indicated to him.

He then sent a copy of the payment receipt to the mobile number previously contacted.
Having not seen the policy arrive, nor having any kind of feedback, the motorist tried several times to call the number of the so-called agency, but without receiving any response, thus realizing that he had been the victim of a scam and that no policy had been issued.
He therefore decided to contact the Carabinieri of Ardenza to file a complaint.

The timely investigations, which involved both telephone usage and banking transactions, allowed the identification of a woman, also burdened by similar precedents, who was therefore reported at liberty to the Judicial Authority of Livorno.

The Carabinieri, given the umpteenth case of online fraud, urge citizens to pay maximum attention to links on Internet sites and online purchases that seem particularly convenient, behind which, sometimes, hide unscrupulous people, dedicated to scams and deceptions. With regard, in particular, to online car insurance policies, it is strongly recommended to first consult the site https://www.ivass.it/consumatori/rc-auto/index.html through which it is possible to check all the companies, based in Italy or abroad, authorised to market policies in our country.

At the above mentioned web address you can find the correct internet address of the company where you can look for telephone and email contacts.

If the one found is not present, it is advisable to contact the police for the necessary investigations that can lead to the blackout of the site and the identification of potential scammers.
