Piombino (Livorno): NAS checks lead to sanctions and seizures in a facility

As part of the Carabinieri campaign aimed at combating counterfeiting in the food supply chain called “Opson XIII”, the soldiers of the NAS of Livorno (Anti-adulteration and healthcare unit) they performed an inspection inside a tourist accommodation facility of Piombino.

Following a check to verify compliance with current legislation and prevent potential risks to public health, the carabinieri ascertained that within the exercise refrigerated food products (meat, fish and bakery products) without traceability were stored for administration to customers that would allow to verify its origin, in violation of the sector legislation that requires to conserve food in packages from which it is possible to deduce, among other things, the expiry date, the origin and the batch number, an essential requirement to deal with any contamination. Furthermore, they were found irregularities from a hygienic-sanitary point of view.

Among these in particular, the business environments (kitchen, food storage) were presented to the police in precarious sanitary conditions due to the presence of previous dirt not removed for some time, widespread traces of grease and grease on the equipment and promiscuity between food and material not relevant to the activity on the shelves.

All the foodstuffs, totaling around 20 kg and worth around 500 euros, were subjected to precautionary seizure, the owner resident in Piombino was sanctioned for a total of 1.500 euros and the relevant authorities have been informed.
