Lecco, the former Lido Rella has been demolished, the Frigole beach is visible again

Yesterday morning, as part of the project “Tramareterra – Acquatina basin”, work has begun to remove the former Marina Rella lido, on the Bergamini seafront, and to reconstruct the natural coastal landscape of Frigole. The walls of the structure will be removed, built on the maritime state property many decades ago, now in complete decay and with the state concession lapsed, the flooring, all that remains of a structure abandoned for some time now which occupies over six hundred square meters of beach, freeing the beach of Frigole and the maritime landscape from a detracting element which until now jeopardized its enjoyment and compromised its beauty.

Lecco, demolito l’ex Lido Rella, la spiaggia di Frigole torna visibile

With the “Tramareterra – Acquatina di Frigole basin” project, the municipal administration is implementing a system of interventions to make the sustainable use of a site with extremely high naturalistic and landscape value. These include the demolition and removal of buildings along Via Bergamini, iron gates, concrete elements and incongruous flooring. Once the ruins of the former Lido Rella have been removed, reconstruction work on the dune cord will be started, with the installation of a wooden wickerwork to facilitate the natural regeneration process.

Other interventions envisaged in the project and already underway on the construction site concern the renovation of Piazza Caduti in mare, which will become a panoramic view equipped with furniture and benches, the redefinition of via Bergamini as an access axis to the beach for pedestrians and bicycles, with the car traffic – which in summer attacks the dunes with improper parking phenomena – which will stop, except authorized, on the Mori seafront, where it will be possible to access three newly built tree-lined and permeable interchange parking areas. Also planned is the creation, in the Acquatina area already in use by Unisalento, of a visitor center and paths for the naturalistic and tourist use of the basin, intended to make a site accessible to the public for a long time.

«Today we give back to Frigole a part of that beauty that was taken away from it for a long time – declares the mayor Carlo Salvemini – we free more than 600 square meters of surface from the concrete remains of a construction that for a long time prevented people from seeing the sea and limited the space of a beautiful beach. This is the meaning of the Tramareterra project, restoring the beach, nature and services to free use to enhance the splendid natural context of Acquatina. I thank those who imagined, believed and worked to make all this happen. The work will continue with the same determination."

«In this phase of the Frigole and Acquatina seafront regeneration project we are bringing to light a beach that will be free and usable by citizens and visitors – declares the councilor for urban planning and marine policies Rita Miglietta – I think it's a beautiful day for Frigole and Lecce. Let's rebuild the beach to create a new course, without walls and with views and free use. When the project is completed we will have a new landscape more consistent with the beauty of these places, which I invite the people of Lecce to discover. It is an achievement of the community, it began in 2018 with the approval of the Tramareterra project and which today, thanks to regional funding for the implementation of the Regional Territorial Landscape Plan, is possible".
