Rome, intensified railway controls in Lazio: over 10.000 people identified by the State Police

Operation "HIGH IMPACT" starts from Rome: increased security in the region's stations and on trains, with arrests and reports on the rise.

This is the balance of the activity of the Railway Police of the Department for Lazio in the week from 19 October to 25 October 2024.

It has taken on particular importance the “HIGH IMPACT” operation on 28 and 29 October 2024: The State Police checks aimed at increasing the level of security saw the joint use of personnel from the Rome Police Headquarters and the Railway Police in the internal and external areas of Rome Termini station. Dangerous and troublesome individuals were tracked down, non-EU citizens and individuals involved in drug dealing were identified, areas of interest to users were cleared, and public commercial establishments were checked: the activity led to the identification of 849 people, 1 reported, dozens of bags checked by the Railway Police, for a total of 26 patrols employed at the station.

363 people identified, this is the result of the activity of the Railway Police for Lazio in the context of the strengthened services of an “extraordinary” control, on board railway convoys on the Rome Termini – Caserta route and vice versa, carried out on 28 October 2024, promoted by the Railway Police Service, as part of the “HIGH IMPACT” operation. The service provided is aimed at the prevention and repression of crimes committed on board the train as well as the careful control of users of the railway service and their luggage.

On October 26, personnel from the Polfer Subsection of Rome Tiburtina, during the usual services for the prevention of crimes in the railway sector, proceeded with the arrest of a person pursuant to the provisions of the Consolidated Law on Immigration Legislative Decree 286/98.

In particular, during the morning the person was stopped for a routine document check from which it emerged that he had illegally returned to Italy without prior authorization from the Police Chief. In fact, the offender, after being hit by an expulsion order issued by the Matera Police Headquarters on 07/03/2024, was escorted on 08/03/2024 by personnel from the Matera Police Headquarters out of the National Territory and entrusted to the competent Albanian Authorities.

On October 27, personnel from the Compartmental Police Squad, during the usual services for the repression of crimes in the railway sector, proceeded to arrest a person because he was responsible, in conjunction with an unknown person, for the crime of aggravated theft in conjunction with a black backpack containing photographic and computer material with a declared value of €20.000.

In particular, during the morning the attention of the operators was drawn to a traveler on the platform of platform no. 11., where a high-speed train was departing for Milano, asked for help, saying he had just suffered a robbery and pointing out a person who was walking away. The officers promptly stopped the individual indicated by the traveler and ascertained that shortly before, on board ES 9646, with the clear intent of distracting the injured party, he had shown her an airline ticket asking her to move from the seat she was occupying.

Shortly after, the injured party noticed that the trolley he had just placed on the luggage rack had been stolen by another individual who was quickly moving away in the direction of the exit. Despite the pursuit undertaken by the traveler, the offender managed to disappear with the stolen goods. On the contrary, the traveler was able to point out to the intervening officers the person who had pretextually asked him for information, allowing the actual perpetrator of the theft to take possession of the stolen goods and who was moving away in the opposite direction, thus allowing his arrest.

In the evening of the day 31 October, personnel of the Polfer Subsection of Rome Tiburtina during the usual services of prevention and repression of crimes in the railway sector inside the Rome Tiburtina station proceeded to arrest a person as he was responsible for the crimes of resisting and injuring a public official. Specifically, the individual in question went to the Railway Police Offices asking if a complaint had been filed by an unidentified woman. When the officers asked him to show his documents, he categorically refused, behaving violently towards the officers. suddenly grabbing an operator by the neck and hitting him several times in the face before being stopped and arrested.
