The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Milano, LaVerdi's dream comes true

Interview with Ambra Redaelli, president of the organization based in Mac di Milano

A youth symphony orchestra where students compete in a sort of post-graduate master's degree with the great masters and learn how to work as a team. all to bring young people closer to classical music with young people. An ambitious project by the volcanic president of the LaVerdi Orchestra Milano, the Brianza businesswoman Ambra Redaelli with a past also as president of Confindustria Brianza. Now her world, in addition to the family business, is music and the orchestra and a very rich season like the one that debuts on Sunday 12 September at the Teatro alla Scala in Milano. «My mission is to bring young people to classical and symphonic music and it is also possible with young people who play repertoires that are perhaps more engaging and exciting than the usual romantic classics – said Redaelli who we met in the beautiful Auditorium at the Mac in Milano in the Tortona area – The average age of our musicians is 40, maximum 50 years and there are also excellent twenty-year-olds». The Youth Orchestra of Milano will take a stable shape with the hearings that open on September 18, but today the core of those who work at LaVerdi are already projected towards the future. Collaborations with the Conservatory and La Scala are obviously not lacking, as are theaters throughout Italy and beyond. The course will last two years, like a master's degree, and will lead the musicians to perform with their tutor masters and then all together in the Orchestra. «Playing in an orchestra means working as a team, in unison and it is a splendid experience – he continued – obviously there are also good soloists but that is not what we are aiming for today». After the various lockdowns, the Orchestra de LaVerdi is off to a great start with the concert at La Scala on 12 September which presents a romantic repertoire. Conducted by Claus Peter Flor we start with Franz Liszt Concerto n. 1 for piano and orchestra in E flat major S 124 and the splendid Symphony 4 by Johannes Brahms op. 98. At the piano the star Mariangela Vaccatello. But the season continues with many concerts and many sections: from the amateur orchestra to the junior orchestra, from the orchestra for those who are out of tune, to the Pops proposals and much more.
