Veglie (Lecce), nauseating smells and pollution, 140 cubic meters of burned manure found. Company reported by the Carabinieri and the Forestry Carabinieri
The investigations were triggered by numerous reports from citizens of Veglie (Lecce). The owner of a farm reported for illegal management of non-hazardous special waste, deposited on the ground and disposed of by combustion.
The nauseating smells that have hit the town of Veglie in recent days have led to the start of investigations by the military of the local station together with those of the Carabinieri Forestali Nucleus of Lecce who have traced the origin of the phenomenon to the illegal treatment of waste by a local company.
Following the reports, the Carabinieri carried out several inspections and limited the area of origin until they identified a farm in the territory of Salice Salentino.
The inspection revealed the presence of numerous piles of manure from livestock farming within the company area, spread over an area of approximately 450 square meters, for a volume of approximately 140 cubic meters, mostly burned.
The owner of the company was therefore reported to the Judicial Authority for the illicit management of special waste not deposited on the ground and disposed of by combustion.
