San Cesario di Lecce (Lecce), 35-year-old arrested for mistreatment of his disabled mother
The interventions of the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Lecce continue to stem the delicate phenomenon of mistreatment in the family which unfortunately is always under attention at a national level.
In the evening, in fact, The Carabinieri of the San Cesario di Lecce station arrested a 35-year-old local man in flagrante delicto, accused of mistreatment against family members.
The incident occurred when the 35-year-old attempted to extort money from his disabled mother, with whom he lives, presumably to purchase drugs. In fear, the elderly woman took refuge in her bedroom, locking herself in for about four hours. Thanks to the determination of the woman, who managed to recover her cell phone, initially stolen by her son, she was able to contact NUE112 and alert the Carabinieri.
The timely intervention of the military allowed the elderly woman to be freed, but the man reacted with threats, promising to "set fire" to the officers. Thanks to the professionalism and calm maintained by the Carabinieri, the arrest was carried out without further incident. Further investigations are underway by the Carabinieri directed by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Lecce.
The man is being held at the “Borgo S. Nicola” prison in Lecce, at the disposal of the judicial authorities who are proceeding, and will have to answer for the serious crimes of mistreatment in the family. The Carabinieri wish to underline the importance of reporting any form of domestic abuse and invite anyone who finds themselves in similar situations to contact the competent authorities.
