Lecce: Coripet eco-compactors also in Piazzale Cuneo and Frigole.

From Tuesday 25 July the last two Coripet eco-compactors planned in Piazzale Cuneo, corner of Via Lucca, and in Piazza Bertacchi, in Frigole, will also be active, completing the supply of 5 eco-compactors planned in Lecce.

The eco-compactors are dedicated to the collection of PET plastic bottles: here citizens can hand over used bottles in exchange for rewards through a collection of points, which will guarantee discounts and vouchers to spend in local shops or on online purchasing platforms.

The eco-compactors already active are located in Via del Mercato (Mercato Settelacquare), Parco Corvaglia, on the Via Pozzuolo side, Piazza Indipendenza, on the Mercato Santa Rosa side and, based on the first data provided by Coripet, the number of deliveries follows an exponential growth trend .

Through the Coripet app, available free of charge for iOS and Android, citizens can create their own account to access the service and deliver the PET plastic bottles that contained food liquids such as water and drinks. The bottles must be inserted empty, not crushed and with the label intact and legible (the machine must read the barcode).

For each bottle awarded, the citizen will be assigned one point. The points collected entitle you to coupons and discount vouchers to be used in shops and online social projects affiliated with Coripet: Clubgreen, Itabus, Libraccio, Agriturismo.it, Martha's cottage, Zeroco2, Del Mare, Onenet by Aon. In collaboration with Confcommercio, the Municipality and Coripet are working to expand the incentive circuit also to the city's commercial establishments, so as to be able to guarantee citizens who recycle PET bottles also coupons to spend in shops.

The plastic bottles delivered will be sent without further steps to a recycling center, where, without labels and caps, they will be shredded and new bottles will be produced with the recycled PET (rPET). It is the "bottle to bottle" chain that allows every single PET bottle, when it reaches the end of its life cycle, to be recycled and reinserted into the economic system, creating new value for consumers, companies and the 'environment.

The installation of eco-compactors in Lecce is the result of a local agreement between the Municipality and Coripet signed in May 2020 and which follows the agreement signed between the consortium and Anci for the implementation of actions to improve quality and quantity of separate waste collection in cities and the installation of eco-compactors. By virtue of the agreement, the Municipality has made available the public land necessary for the installation of the collectors and Coripet has taken charge of activating the bottle to bottle system in the municipal territory, thanks to which citizens will be able to return their post-consumption PET bottles , separately from other waste, with the possibility of receiving discounts and coupons in exchange.

At 18.30 pm in Piazza Bertacchi and at 19.30 pm in Piazzale Cuneo the eco-compactors will be activated in the presence of the Environment Councilor Angela Valli.

«With the installation of the last two eco-compactors in the city, five are active, located in five different neighborhoods: Settelacquare, San Pio, Santa Rosa, and now also Stadio and the village of Frigole. The growing trend of use gives us hope that this additional technological equipment can increasingly and better enter the habits of residents, who, by conferring, accumulate coupons and discount vouchers to spend in online shops, to the benefit of the environment and of sustainability" declares the Councilor for the Environment Angela Valli.

In Piazza Bertacchi, in Frigole, on the same day and at the same time, a stand will also be set up for the free distribution of the anti-larval kit for fighting mosquitoes, to be used in private areas.
