Lecce: laying of the foundation stone of the building in via Caduti di Nassiriya.
The first stone of the sports structure was laid by the mayor Carlo Salvemini, the sports councilor Paolo Foresio and the representatives of the fencing and gymnastics federations. Present were the president of Federscherma Puglia Roberto Lippolis and Patrizia Tamburrano, delegated by the regional president of the Gymnastics Federation.
Financed with 3 million euros of PNRR funds, the new multipurpose facility will be equipped with all the equipment necessary for the practice of competitive activities of artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, fencing and table tennis, according to the indications and regulations of the respective and competent national sports federations . Particular attention will be paid to the usability of the center by athletes with disabilities, as well as a careful study of the routes, including for the blind (loges routes), and respect for the basic principles of adaptive sport.
The sports complex will consist of a 1265 square meter hall for sporting activities and a 255 square meter space adjacent to it, intended for the spectator stand, with a capacity of 249 people, including places for people with disabilities. Furthermore, auxiliary and support services are provided for athletes, staff, referees and instructors, all accessible.
«In these days in which there are concerns on the part of the Municipalities related to the remodulation of the PNRR, it is very significant to start the construction site of this important work, long awaited by those who practice the disciplines of artistic gymnastics and gymnastics in our city. rhythm and fencing. Disciplines defined anachronistically and unjustifiably as minor which, instead, are peaks of sporting excellence as confirmed by the many successes achieved in international competitions" declares the mayor Carlo Salvemini.
«This is a historic day: what was missing was a hall dedicated to these sports disciplines which give us great satisfaction in terms of results. These male and female athletes, these families, the federations deserved an adequate facility and we are giving it to them. The Administration's objective, clarified already in 2017, was to redevelop the existing and add new sports spaces, such as the other dedicated to tennis in via Potenza, which is nearing completion and for which we will soon issue a management tender, and the arena dedicated to skating near the Stadium which we hope to deliver as soon as possible" adds the Sports councilor Paolo Foresio.
