In the early hours of Saturday, the State Police arrested a thirty-seven-year-old homeless foreign citizen for attempted robbery.
Around 47:XNUMX a.m., the operations room of the Lecce police headquarters received a report of an assault on the street in the San Pio area against a man. The patrol cars that immediately arrived on the scene confirmed that shortly before, a XNUMX-year-old man, while walking on the sidewalk, had been approached from behind and attacked by a non-EU citizen.
The attacker, after knocking the man to the ground, kicked and punched him in the head, demanding that he give him his wallet and rummaging through his trouser pockets.
The victim reacted, also thanks to the help of two passers-by who blocked the attacker and contacted the emergency number 112.
The patrol officers who arrived on the scene immobilized and secured the attacker., a 37-year-old originally from Senegal, legally resident in the country and already known to the police, and proceeded to arrest him in flagrante delicto and take him to the county jail.
Medical personnel also intervened on site and provided the victim with the necessary care.
