Lecce, 3,6 million for the housing contribution. THEThe Mayor makes the Council official with the aim of "supporting people in difficulty".

In the council chamber of the City Hall, Mayor Vito Leccese held a press conference on the appointment of the special purpose council and the upcoming administrative objectives.

“I wanted to meet the press – Mayor Vito Leccese began – to explain the reasons for the decree appointing a special-purpose council, which proposes the same composition as the outgoing one, with the same councilors and the same delegations.

We have the need, as provided for by art. 193 of the TUEL, to convene the Municipal Council which is obliged, by July 31st, to approve a resolution relating to financial balances, a necessary step both to implement any corrective measures useful for achieving budget balance and to certify called equilibrium. We are talking about a due act, also provided for by the municipal accounting regulations.

At the same time, the municipal administrations, always by July 31, have the possibility of approving the budget adjustment for any changes in the income and expenditure chapters for the purpose of balancing the budget. In particular, with regard to the adjustment maneuver, I asked the offices to include a sum of 3 million and 600 thousand euros to be allocated to the housing contribution. This measure, which I consider necessary and urgent, was instead cancelled by the national government after 23 years from its institution. This is where the support of approximately 2000 families who would find themselves in great difficulty comes from. With this act, moreover, the Municipality will be able to request an integration from the Puglia Region which, as has happened several times in the past, will be able to evaluate the implementation of the municipal allocation during the adjustment phase.

As I also said at the time of my proclamation, I want to dedicate myself in particular to those who have socio-economic difficulties, who face difficult situations in managing the daily family budget and live on the margins of society. These people are and will be my priority and we must give answers to these people, even with apparently difficult choices like this. We cannot allow welfare and social protection and welfare systems understood as closeness to people, which have characterized the last 20 years of the center-left government, to be interrupted.

The purpose council has this sole mission: to protect the interests of citizens in order to avoid a situation of conflict through the adoption of measures aimed at securing appropriations intended for interventions of a social nature.

Finally, we hope that the work of the central electoral commission will end as soon as possible so as to allow us to start the new political phase which will see the decisive contribution of the new city council and the new council".
