Galatina: Sale and marketing of explosive material, over 300 homemade “paper bombs” seized
In particular, within the scope of the prevention services organized by the Lecce Police Headquarters, personnel employed by the Galatina State Police Station assisted by personnel employed by the Southern Puglia Crime Prevention Department, carried out numerous checks on commercial activities and people and carried out Judicial Police activities in the municipality of Galatina and in the hamlets of competence identifying approximately 200 people and checking over 70 vehicles.
In addition, checks were carried out on customers of 10 betting shops. During the activity they were reported to the Judicial Authority two people, a 34-year-old from Galatina who had a baseball bat seized that was found in his car and held without justification, and a 65-year-old from Noah reported for possession and production of pyrotechnic devices that did not comply with the law.
Specifically, during the services aimed at repressing the rampant phenomenon of the sale and marketing of explosive material coinciding with the arrival of the Christmas holidays, personnel from the Judicial Police Team of the Police Station, following information-investigative activities, after having carried out some stakeout services, carried out a house search at the home of the 65 year old, having good reason to believe that inside the home, the person under attention, already known to the operators because he had criminal records and police convictions similar to the one being investigated, he could be in possession of home-made pyrotechnic devices.In fact, inside the house located in Noha di Galatina and adjacent to other houses, after a thorough search, Pyrotechnic devices with a total gross weight of over 20 kg were found in several places. In particular, Over 300 homemade "paper bombs" have been found that the interested party had assembled inside the said house having found inside it the material necessary for the packaging/production and subsequent sale to third parties of the same, i.e. ignition fuses, primers and remote control units for remote ignition.
All the material found was subjected, with the intervention of specialized personnel of the Brindisi Border Police Bomb Squad, to criminal seizure and entrusted to a company authorized for transport and storage. It is specified that the measures adopted during the investigative and/or trial phase do not imply any liability of the subjects under investigation or accused and that the information on the ongoing criminal proceedings is provided in compliance with the rights of the person under investigation and the presumption of innocence.
