Casarano (Lecce), arrested for assault with an axe on a construction site

In the afternoon, the Carabinieri of the Casarano Station, together with colleagues from NORM, they arrested a 58-year-old local man for aggravated personal injury and unjustified possession of weapons and objects capable of causing offenceThe intervention was requested around 13:30 pm following a report to NUE 112 regarding an assault on a construction site in Casarano.

The victim, the owner of a construction company, was plastering a wall that bordered the home of the attacker, a single and unemployed man. For apparently trivial and incomprehensible reasons, the attacker hit the worker on the head with an axe, causing serious injuries.

Arriving on the scene, the Carabinieri found the victim frightened and conscious. Without wasting a moment, they provided assistance and began to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident. The military of the Arma, with their experience and professionalism, know that every detail counts. In a short time, they found and seized the weapon: the axe, probably used in the attack, which was found near the construction site.

The attacker, visibly agitated, was immediately stopped and identified while the victim was rushed to the Casarano hospital to receive the necessary treatment, where doctors confirmed the seriousness of the injuries reported. After the ritual formalities, the 58-year-old was placed under house arrest, as ordered by the on-duty PM of the Lecce Public Prosecutor's Office, who is following the case.

The investigation is continuing to collect testimonies and further elements useful to clarify the motivations that led to such a violent act. The Carabinieri have underlined the importance of reporting violent or suspicious behavior, contributing to the safety of the community.
