Massive hashish seizure between Lecce and Brindisi: A 21-year-old was arrested with 20 kilos of the drug in his trunk.

A high impact operation conducted by the State Police – Lecce Flying Squad led to the arrest of a young man with no criminal record, born in 2003, stopped while carrying a large quantity of hashish destined for the illicit market in the provinces of Lecce and Brindisi.

The activity, included in a broader plan of territory monitoring On the main arteries used for drug trafficking, an observation and blockade system was set up in the area between Lecce and Brindisi, areas often used by couriers to reach various drug dealing hubs in Puglia.

At about 18.00 hours, an unmarked car from the Flying Squad intercepted a vehicle speeding towards Brindisi and then towards Taranto. The driver, with risky maneuvers and evasion attempts, aroused the suspicion of the officers, who decided to intervene immediately.

At the exit for Francavilla Fontana – Industrial Area, the operators managed to block the car by activating the emergency lights. The young driver immediately appeared intolerant, while from the cockpit came a strong smell of cannabis, a circumstance which led the police to proceed with a search. In the trunk of the vehicle the officers found 200 blocks of hashish for a total weight of 20 kilograms.

All the material was packaged and ready for distribution, a sign of an organized system intended to supply various drug dealing areas. The drugs were immediately seized, while the young man was taken to the Flying Squad offices for the ritual formalities.
