Galatina: driving a stolen car. 43-year-old arrested for theft, money laundering, carrying objects capable of causing offence and unauthorised waste disposal.

On October 13.30st, at approximately XNUMX pm, a patrol from the Galatina Police Station, passing through the locality of San Cesario di Lecce on its way back to Galatina, noticed a car travelling at high speed overtaking, even in conditions of poor visibility, several cars.

Never losing sight of the car, the police officers noticed that, having reached the entrance to the city centre of Galatina, continued to perform dangerous maneuvers, endangering not only their own safety, but also that of others. At that point, the police they decided to proceed with the check of the vehicle, in safety.

Upon first approaching the driver, a 43-year-old man, the operators noted that he was without documents personal, driving license and, above all, was showing difficulty in finding even the documents of the car he was driving.

At the same time, he was asked to turn off the engine and get out of the car, but the man reported that the car, if it had been turned off, would have had difficulty starting again. This and other details aroused the suspicions of the police officers: theobvious breakage of the opening handle of the driver's side door, on the left side of the steering wheel there were some electronic system cables tampered with and completely exposed to view and in the ignition switch, there was a screwdriver inserted.

The driver was immediately made to get out of the car and subjected to a personal search. In the trousers pocket, a hexagonal key modified "like a sword" and an OBD socket were found, a tool usually used by individuals involved in commission of vehicle thefts to “bypass” the control units, while on the driver's seat, initially hidden between the man's legs, a wrench was found, presumably used to force the ignition lock and make it easier to start.

The 43-year-old, initially reticent, he revered having removed the vehicle a few minutes earlier from the parking lot of a shopping center located in the municipality of San Cesario di Lecce.

In fact, from the first investigations the car it was found to have been removed from a woman who had not yet realized the theft.
Following this, the officers proceeded to house search at his home, finding that, on his property, there was a real workshop, completely devoid of any authorization title. Inside there was the presence of numerous vehicle parts and tools typically used for disassembly, the cutting and cancellation of their identification codes.

Furthermore, in an area behind the house, but still adjacent to it, there were several partially dismantled cars and numerous plates of cars found to be stolen were all seized.
Considered the very large presence of car parts present both in the area behind the house and inside the premises used as an unauthorised workshop, we proceeded to Criminal seizure of both areas, also assuming that the 43-year-old is charged with the commission of unauthorized disposal of waste.
For the above reasons, the man was arrested and, as ordered by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Lecce, taken to the local prison.
