Isernia, clinging to the bridge parapet ready to jump. Rescued by the Carabinieri.

It was around 11.00 in the morning, when a man in an evident state of confusion called the emergency telephone number 112, threatening to throw himself from the viaduct near Isernia Sud. Despite the attempts to reassure him by the operators of the Operations Center, specifically trained to manage these situations even with a telephone conversation, the interlocutor continued to repeat that he would soon let himself go.

Three crews from the Isernia Carabinieri Company Command were immediately sent to the scene. The man wanted to throw himself from the “Longano” viaduct onto Strada Statale 85 Venafrana, at the height of the Isernia-Sud junction. He was clinging to the railing, visibly tired given his considerable size, and kept repeating that he would jump.

The Carabinieri, who intervened on the scene, secured the area by blocking road traffic, then approached the man who was clearly in a state of confusion, while in the meantime a patrol car from the State Police arrived on the scene to assist their colleagues. The soldiers tried to calm him down by establishing a dialogue of trust and mediation and, taking advantage of a moment of distraction, they managed to grab him by the arms and legs, blocking him near the parapet, with the help of the Police personnel, while a team of Firefighters also arrived on site..
